Learning Center Coordinator (Part-time)

Location: Itasca

The Learning Center Coordinator is responsible for the day to day onsite management of the Learning Center on the Itasca campus.  This position has the primary responsibility for coordinating academic skills instruction and homework assistance to youth in residence.  This includes coordination of tutors, facilitate staff communication, maintain educational resources and assist with student records. This is a part time position.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Keep track of tutoring hours, maintain records of student hours spent in tutoring, coordinate employment forms for tutors, and provide feedback to Director of Education. Assist the Director of Education with tutor training.
  • Supervise children in the learning centers during stated hours. Provide general assistant with resources to students attending the learning center. Assist students in the computer lab.
  • Maintain a tutoring schedule for the Learning Center. Communicate schedule to Direct Care Staff, Case Managers, Director of Education and Education Coordinator.
  • Maintain a library of books and resources for children and staff on Itasca campus. Provide times for student and staff to check out and/or use the materials in the library.
  • Work with the Director of Education, Consultants/Case Workers, and Program Directors to determine the educational needs of students and to provide for necessary tutoring or other assistance.
  • Work with public school personnel when requested.
  • Attend campus meetings with administrators and staff to report activities of Learning Centers, share pertinent information regarding Education Program and participate in trainings offered on campus.
  • Assist the Director of Education with obtaining necessary paperwork for the tracking of student progress, obtaining educational services, and/or communicating with staff regarding student’s progress.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Will supervise tutors employed on the Itasca campus.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are typically in an office setting/learning center.  Work schedule is about 3-3 ½ hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.  Schedule will follow Itasca Independent School District calendar.

Job Requirements:

Certified teacher and/or graduate student in education.  Experience with junior high and high school students in school setting.  Experience with at-risk students preferred.  Computer skills to supervise and assist students.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must have a valid Texas Drivers License and meet the PCHAS Drivers Policy Standards.  Teaching Certificate preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Good organizational and time management skills required. Must be a self starter and possess flexibility to plan and carry out a wide variety of job responsibilities, working closely with Director of Education.   Must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to utilize technology to aide communication.  Must be highly responsible and able to work independently.
