Mission, Vision, Values

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” (Matthew 19)

For 114 years, Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) has been heeding Jesus’ call to care for children and families in need. Through our continuum of care, we help children and families move from despair to hope, equipping each child and parent to reshape their future in ways previously unimagined. With faithful support from numerous individuals, congregations and foundations, we’ll continue to fulfill our mission, serving over 2,800 children and families in need each year.

Mission

Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services provides Christ-centered care and support to children and families in need.

Vision

We create opportunities for young people to have a future with hope, with possibilities. Tragically, trauma too often consumes people’s lives, especially in childhood. It can tear them down socially, educationally and spiritually, leaving them with a life perspective that sees little beyond survival. Our vision, however, includes our belief that God has a special plan for each child. Towards this vision, we do everything in our power to help them discover God’s plan for their lives.

Our work includes:

  • Helping children heal so they can build healthy relationships with their families.
  • Helping children succeed in education so the world of opportunity and possibility opens before them.
  • Giving parents, grandparents and other caretakers the resources and skills they need to ensure a stable future for themselves and those in their care.
  • We help children and their families realize they can make choices in life and that they can build on their strengths to feel competent and successful. Simply put, we help people blossom when they otherwise might have lived a life of unfulfilled possibilities.

Values

In much of American life, we hear a great deal about the need to change. However, at PCHAS, we focus on values that should never change. Those include things we are instructed to do in Micah 6:8: “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.” This model of a humble and faithful life is something we teach and try to emulate each and every day.

The direct actions of doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with our God are carried out by our staff through a philosophy of care that is family centered, strength focused, and goal driven. Everything that PCHAS does is designed to incorporate these same values which are reflected in our hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and business practices.
