5 Reasons to Participate in Your Local Giving Day

Online “giving days” are days that are set aside to raise money for nonprofits. Have you ever heard of Amplify Austin or East Texas Giving Day? They are just a few of the giving days that Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) participates in across Texas, and more are coming up soon: Texoma Giving Day (September 7) and North Texas Giving Day (September 14). Thanks to the generosity of our neighbors, we have raised more than $16,000 from giving days so far in 2017!

Here are five reasons you should participate in giving days:

  1. Be part of a community event — attend giving day fundraisers

Giving days provide a day for cities, counties and communities to come together and be involved in a community-wide event. They give you a chance to attend fundraisers and meet the workers behind your favorite nonprofit. Get involved with your community and support a local nonprofit at the same time!

  1. When you help people in your community, you’re making it a better place to live

Giving days are a great way to learn about the needs in your community and what kind of nonprofits are working to fill them. By reinvesting your hard-earned dollars in your area, you’re making it a better place to live. It’s a win-win for everyone!

  1. Share your passion

Giving days provide a great platform to share why you care about a cause and spread awareness of a nonprofit that cares too. In addition to making a gift, you can give back by sharing news of giving opportunities with your friends and family through word-of-mouth, email and social media about the causes and nonprofits you are passionate about. You might just introduce someone to something they are passionate about and you’ll help your favorite nonprofit at the same time.

  1. You can give a gift online — in your pajamas!

Participating in giving days is so easy! All it takes to support your organization of choice is 3 minutes and you can do in your pajamas. (Just click here to make a gift for The Big Give San Antonio.)

  1. Win prizes!

Most giving days award prizes in addition to the money raised, making your gift go further. Prize categories often include most money raised and most donors — meaning that no gift is too small. Prizes can be as much as $10,000 for some giving days, so do your part to help your favorite nonprofit win.
