Trinity Presbyterian Raises $10,000 for PCHAS in Golf Tournament

Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney hosted the 6th Annual Wes Geary Golf Tournament at McKinney’s Westridge Golf Course this fall. The event originated as a way to raise money for the Foster Care Program for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services wes-geary-2(PCHAS).

Mally Baum, Trinity Presbyterian’s Associate Pastor, explained how the tournament, which attracts approximately 100 golfers each year, was named for who she calls “our beloved former Parish assistant the Rev. Wes Geary.” She said, “Wes was both an avid golfer and a huge fan of PCHAS, so a golf tournament in his honor supporting PCHAS was a natural fit.”

This year the tournament held special significance for its church and committee members as this was the first year without Wes. “This year’s tournament was bittersweet for us since Wes passed away unexpectedly last year,” said Mally. “It is hard to imagine the tournament without him, but it is wonderful to know that with this tournament we have an ongoing way to honor him. Wes was larger than life. He had a big voice, big faith and a huge heart.”

Karen Cook, who has been helping organize the tournament along with her husband Fred since the beginning in 2011 described the tournament day saying, “we try hard to make this an enjoyable morning of wes-geary-1golf with a luncheon of prizes, rewards and just rowdy golfers having a great time. It is an enjoyable day filled with good food, fun and fellowship.”

The tournament’s organizers had no idea that along with the fun they would raise a significant amount of money. The golf committee presented PCHAS with a $10,000 check from the proceeds of the 2015 tournament.
