Help Children Make Good Choices: Parenting Tips from PCHAS’ Scott Waller

PCHAS will be hosting its first ever Parenting Education Seminar on Sept. 20th! Six prominent PCHAS specialists will discuss topics ranging from foster care to practical parenting tips. We asked keynote speaker Scott Waller to give us a sneak peak of what he will be talking about on the big day, see what he had to say:

What is your position within PCHAS and what do you do?
I am the Foster Care and Adoption Director for North Texas.

Are you a parent/how many children do you have?
Yes. I have two daughters, Kirsten and Makenzi.

What will you be speaking about at the parenting seminar on September 20th?
I will be the keynote speaker for the lunch. I will be speaking about the state of children in foster care, with a specific call to action to churches.

What are you hoping seminar attendees will take away from your talk?
A more clear understanding of the needs of children in foster care and how the church can provide hope and healing.

If you could give only one piece of parenting advice, what would it be?
One of the greatest gifts a parent to give to their children is to help them make good choices as children so they will have the ability to make good choices as adults. This can only happen if children are given the opportunity to make choices. Parents should be intentional about giving children choices and then letting children experience the good or bad consequences of those choices.

Scott currently supervises PCHAS’ foster care programs in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Waxahachie, Longview, and Wichita Falls. He also facilitates foster-to-adopt services for our foster families who desire to adopt the child they are fostering if the child becomes available for adoption.  Scott also works with churches to equip and mobilize them to develop their own foster care and adoption ministries in collaboration with PCHAS. This allows for greater awareness, which in turn allows for increased recruitment activities.
