Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services is excited to introduce our newest Child and Family Specialist Haley Young. Haley joined the PCHAS team this month, and is excited to have the opportunity to help children and families in Kilgore, Texas. When she learned from a family friend about a job opening with PCHAS, she was thrilled. “I’ve been looking for the opportunity to work for a faith-based organization,” Haley said. “It just hadn’t presented itself until now. I was so excited when I got the call for an interview.”

Haley grew up in Kilgore and earned a degree in social work from The University of Texas at Austin.  She is also bilingual, which helps her communicate with PCHAS’ Spanish-speaking clients.

After graduating from college, Haley moved back to her home town to work as a social worker for the Allegiance Specialty Hospital of Kilgore, a psychiatric hospital that specializes in the care of senior adults with serious mental disorders. Her journey then led her to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) where she served as health facility investigator, inspecting health facilities to ensure their compliance with federal and state regulations. After a year with DADS, Haley decided to return to the Allegiance Special Hospital, where she served as a recreational therapist and marketing assistant.

She will join PCHAS’ other Child and Family Specialists who help families in crisis stay together. “We provide in-home services to families in need,” Haley stated. “Whether it’s helping them with financial problems, counseling, getting connected to resources, transportation — we provide whatever the family needs.”

The families served through the Child and Family Program face a wide variety of challenges. Some are struggling with divorce, illness, poverty, homelessness. Whatever the situation, PCHAS specialists work with each family to create goals for them to work toward and support them along the way at no cost to the family.

“I’m excited to be back in my hometown,” said Haley. “I know them, and they know me. I want to help this program grow and help the Kilgore community realize that we’re here and educate them about how we can help.”

PCHAS has Child and Family Specialists all over the state of Texas and in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. To locate a Children and Family Program Specialist in your area, or to learn more about how our Child and Family Specialists can help, visit our Child and Family page.
