Joy Smith

Joy Smith of San Antonio, long- time supporter, Ambassador and volunteer for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services passed away July 28, 2013.  She was a good friend of our agency and worked closely with Signe Fredrickson, the PCHAS San Antonio Development officer who said this about Joy:

“I am lucky enough to have known Joy and her spunkiness.  We would sit after PCHAS events; enjoy a cup of coffee and discussing the topic or two of the day.  Joy had a passion for children and families in need.  She volunteered her time and effort to help build a stronger bridge of concern, love and understanding between her church (St. Andrews in San Antonio) and PCHAS.   Joy always said, ‘When you see the face of a child, you see the face of God. I am honored to serve this ministry that does so much for children and families.’ Joy, we are honored to have known you!”

Joy loved the children in PCHAS’ care. Her many gifts to PCHAS include the time and energy she shared with the children. She served as a volunteer for PCHAS’ Group Homes in San Antonio. The Reverend Nancy C. Mossman, PCHAS’ volunteer coordinator, said this of Joy: “She loved the kids and she wanted to support the Home Parents.  She did and was very involved in the lives of the children we served.  We are going to miss Joy very much.”

Joy’s funeral was held Saturday, Aug.3, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in San Antonio.
